Phil Hossler, ATC Author of two textbooks and 28 articles on athletic training, Phil Hossler helped create New Jersey's 1984 Athletic Training Practice Act as well as the landmark 1999 New Jersey state law recognizing high school athletic trainers by the State Department of Education. He has worked with high school athletes for 30 years and is currently the Certified Athletic Trainer at East Brunswick High School in East Brunswick, New Jersey.Phil Hossler was a founding member of New Jersey's Athletic Training Society, served on its executive committee for 16 years, and is the society's only two time president. He is past President of the 6,000 member Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association.He served 15 years as the medical director of New Jersey's Garden State Games and has traveled six times to Europe, South America and in the US with Olympic level teams. Widely recognized for his expertise on athletic training, he is the recipient of numerous awards from the Athletic Trainers' Society of New Jersey, the National Athletic Trainers' Association, and the MBM/Eastern Athletic Trainers' Association. He was an inaugural member of the New Jersey athletic trainers' Hall of Fame in 1997. He was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame in 1999 and the New Jersey State Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2001.Michael Collins, Ph.D. Dr. Collins is a nationally renowned sports concussion clinician and researcher who joined the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center(UPMC) Sports Medicine Concussion Program as Assistant Director when the program was established in September 2000. The program encompasses an ongoing clinical service and research team whose focus is providing the best possible evaluation and management of sports-related concussions in athletes of all levels. In October 2002, Dr. Collins was the author of the first major study examining the effects of multiple concussions in high school athletes. Findings were published in the Journal of Neurosurgery. In 1999, Dr. Collins was the author of two major multi-site studies involving the effects of concussion and return-to-play evaluation methods.Dr. Collins continues to administer and oversee clinical programs for concussion management for sports teams at several major high schools throughout the country. He is a clinical consultant to numerous major league baseball teams and to several amateur and professional sports organizations, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Collins received his bachelor's degree in psychology and biology at the University of Southern Maine in 1991, a master's degree in psychology at Michigan State University in 1995, and his doctorate degree in clinical psychology at Michigan State in 1998. He has published numerous other articles in neuropsychology and sports medicine journals during the past several years, and is a frequently invited presenter on the topic of sports concussions at national and international meetings. He has co-authored a sports concussion textbook and is a reviewer for the Journal of the American Medical Association. The North American Brain Injury Society recognized Dr. Collins with the 2005 Innovations in Treatment Award, given annually to an individual selected by their Board of Directors for developing and implementing innovative and efficacious treatment for persons with brain injuries.Chris Nowinski As President and CEO of the Sports Legacy Institute and Co-Director for the Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy at Boston University School of Medicine, Chris Nowinski is a national leader and spokesman for concussion awareness and safety in school sports. Author of Head Games: Football's Concussion Crisis in 2006, he documents research linking multiple concussions with serious long-term neurological disorders like Alzheimer's disease, memory impairment, and depression. As an advocate and speaker, he is committed to addressing the startling lack of awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of these injuries among athletes of all ages. John Leddy, M.D. He is Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Associate Director of the UB Sports Medicine Institute and Director of the UB Concussion Clinic. His research interests and publications focus primarily on athletic injuries, in particular concussion. He pioneered the use of exercise for the treatment of post concussion syndrome His research interests also include obesity, nutrition and enhancing athletic performance.Ron Savage, Ed.D. He is Vice President of Lash and Associates Publishing/Training Inc. Dr. Savage specializes in the impact of brain injury on behavior and learning in children, adolescents and young adults. His international recognition as author and presenter is based on practical experience as a rehabilitation clinician and educator. Dr. Savage is interim Chair of the North American Brain Injury Society and also the Chairman and Co-Founder of the International Pediatric Brain Injury Society (IPBIS).Barry Willer, Ph.D. Barry Willer has a Ph.D. in Psychology and is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has authored numerous scientific publications on various aspects of living with the effects of traumatic brain injury. He has served as principal investigator of funded research including current projects examining emotion perception difficulties after brain injury, and treatment of post concussion syndrome. He also serves as Director of Research for the UB Concussion Clinic. |
