Classroom Suite includes the flagship product Classroom Suite plus three additional powerful template tools: Primary Skills Builder, ReadingTutor, and MathTutor.

Classroom Suite 5
Grades PreK-5
Classroom Suite 5 is the platform software. It is a powerful software tool that includes many pre-made accessible activities for teachers to assign to students for practicing essential skills. In addition to pre-made activities, the software allows teachers to create their own activities so those activities closely align to each teacher’s planning and goals. Teachers have control over assigning and creating activities for their students. The software’s flexibility allows for differentiated instruction for individuals or groups to help students in grades PreK-5 achieve success in reading, writing, and mathematics. Out-of-the-box lessons incorporate a system of "model, practice, apply" to ensure that your students understand each educational objective.

Primary Skills Builders
Grades PreK-4
Primary Skills Builders feature early learning activity templates for skill development and assessment of emergent learners. These templates includes accessible books that are easy to author with sounds and animation, math word problems with supported cues and calculator for beginning addition and subtraction, comprehension assessments that address one, two, or three possible choices to support students with a variety of cognitive levels, sequencing assessments using letters, numbers, images, words, phrases, or sentences, spelling tests with auditory prompting and visual cues to support student practice, and fill in the blank assessments containing text, sound, and image support with customizable word banks.

ReadingTutor
Grades K-2
ReadingTutor includes pre-authored reading activities from letter name identification through phonemic awareness and phonics. In particular it features 398 activities (KK: 118; Level 1: 138; Level 2: 142), addresses K through 2nd grade basic reading concepts, 30 units covering the grade level content organized and sequenced by concept, as well as activities involving matching, blending, and manipulating phonemes; as well as letter sound correspondence.

MathTutor
Grades 2-3
MathTutor features targeted set of math activities to help students reach success in addition, subtraction and learning money. These templates include nearly 60 pre-made activities for a total of 12-hours of activities and can be excellent supplements to core math curriculum.

Addtional Features:

Response to Intervention (RTI) Tool
The software packages is a perfect Tier 2 and Tier 3 solution. As a supplement to core curriculum, Classroom Suite provides basic concept building and reinforcement with the ability to create custom units and activities. As an intensive intervention tool, Classroom Suite provides more than 4,000 activities created by teachers and therapists that support foundation skills.

Support for English Language Learners
For students whose primary language is not English, reading, writing, and literacy skills must be addressed as quickly as possible so that effective instructional practices can be developed. Classroom Suite provides support for bilingual teaching through the customizable instructions (auditory prompts), which can be simply recorded in any language by the teacher.

Accessibility
Classroom Suite has built-in alternative access through tools such as IntelliKeys and switch scanning to meet Universal Design for Learning (UDL) standards and is also 508 compliant. Classroom Suite is also perfect for whole group instruction and works with interactive platforms.

Please Note

Classroom Suite requires that Apple QuickTime be installed on the computer.
On April 14, 2016, Apple announced that it will no longer support the Windows operating systems for its QuickTime software. The sunsetting of QuickTime by Apple does have several negative consequences for Windows users of Classroom Suite.

  • If you upgrade to Windows 10 and do not have Apple QuickTime installed on your computer prior to upgrading, you will not be able to use Classroom Suite. There is a known bug in the Apple QuickTime installer that makes it incompatible with Windows 10. This bug will not be fixed due to the sunsetting of QuickTime by Apple.
  • On April 14, 2016, the United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team (US-CERT) and Trend Micro announced two security vulnerabilities with Apple QuickTime for Windows computers. Because Apple has sunsetted QuickTime support for Windows computers, it has been recommended that Apple QuickTime be removed from all Windows computers. If Apple QuickTime is removed from a computer, Classroom Suite will no longer work. For further information on these two security vulnerabilities, please visit www.us-cert.gov/ncas/alerts/TA16-105A or http://blog.trendmicro.com/urgent-call-action-uninstall-quicktime-windows-today/.

Going forward, if you are a Windows 7 or 8 user, to continue to use Classroom Suite, we would recommend you set up a dedicated computer workstation that is completely de-coupled from an internet connection (e.g. Both hard-wired and WiFi internet connections are disabled on this computer). For information on Windows 7 and 8 end of life support please visit here, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle..

AbleNet has reviewed alternative options to Apple QuickTime for Classroom Suite and at this time none of the options are viable to move to.

How students and teachers use Classroom Suite

Students on an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)

Activities are easily individualized to address specific instructional needs cited on IEP, and are perfect for collecting data for the IEP and alternative assessments.

Response to Intervention (RTI) for struggling students

Teachers can individualize reading and math instruction for students who are at risk or to provide supplementary instruction to district or core curriculums.

Universal Design for Learning

All activities are switch and IntelliKeys® accessible, allowing students with physical, visual and cognitive disabilities to access curriculum and learn concepts.

Whole Group Instruction

Multimedia concept models and creativity tools, all supported by interactive text, pictures, and buttons, make Classroom Suite ideal for use with interactive white boards.

Classroom Suite Learning Supports

Multimedia Learning

Classroom Suite provides an engaging learning environment utilizing the power of multimedia. Text can be read aloud to support early readers. Concepts can be animated to support differentiated instruction. Word Prediction and Spell Check provide student’s access to writing and editing support.

Model, Practice, Apply

Classroom Suite performs like an excellent instructor. Great teachers give direction (Model), support guided practices with their class (Practice), and then turn the reins over to their students (Apply). With Classroom Suite, students are led through three stages:
    • Show Me: the computer plays a video-like sequence to orient the student to the lesson.
    • Practice: the student practices and learns as the software provides strategic and corrective feedback.
    • Challenge: the educational objective is identical to the objective for “practice” but the corrective feedback is withdrawn and data is collected for reports.

Individualized Instruction

Lessons can be individualized in a few seconds and can be organized into units that fit your district or core curriculum. Lessons determine the mastery level of individual students which then leads to more practice or advancement.

Easy tracking of student progress

Each activity captures data, such as scores and time it took to complete an activity. This enables you to monitor the student’s progress or determine where additional, direct instruction, may be necessary. Reports can be printed out as support documents for IEP meetings, or information in a parent communication packet.

Customizable Templates

Use templates to adapt your curriculum

Classroom Suite templates contain research-based curriculum that supports national educational standards. Templates provide you the opportunity to choose the content to match your curriculum needs. There are dozens of templates organized into four main categories: Early Learning, Math, Reading, and Writing.

Pinpoint skills for reinforcement

As you observe students working in the classroom, make notes about any problem areas. Then select the appropriate template that would allow students to practice the skills they are struggling to master. Refer to the Flow Charts printed separately to help in determining which templates address the skills with which the student is struggling.

Customize templates

Each Classroom Suite template can be customized to align with the specific skills, lessons, or core curriculum that you are focusing on with your students. Some examples of modifications you can make include: pictures, number of questions or items, range of numbers, types of manipulatives, as well as targeted sounds. To open the Customize dialog box, click the Customize button on the Teacher page or within the Preview activity.

Assessment in Classroom Suite

Classroom Suite provides three highly-integrated feature sets designed to help you with diagnosis and placement of students.

Assessment and Automaticity Templates

Assessment and Automaticity templates measure high-stakes Math and Reading skills, enabling you to diagnose areas of weakness and pinpoint where intervention may be required. If taken at the beginning of the school year, these activities also allow you to determine baseline skill level for placement purposes.

Reports

Each activity in Classroom Suite captures data, such as scores and time it took to complete an activity. This enables you to monitor the student’s progress and to determine where additional, direct instruction may be necessary.

Unit Builder

The Unit Builder allows you to link activities into a sequence for the purpose of building skills, managing student time, keeping unit lessons together, or for creating a series of scaffolded activities. You can set the parameters for determining if and when students can continue through the sequence of activities based upon scores in the Challenge portion of the activity.

Student and Classroom Management

Teachers and program assistants can perform administrative and management tasks, including:

  • Student and class setup
  • Assign work
  • Generate reports
