The Big Book of R Carry-Over Stories, by Sheila McGovern and Christine Ristuccia, provides an advanced level articulation tool for dealing with the difficult /r/ phoneme. The Big Book of R Carry-Over Stories focuses on reading, structured conversation and conversational speech level activities for all 8 variations of the /r/ phoneme for all three word positions--initial, medial, and final. This book is based on the 8 variations of /r/, the basic foundation for the /r/ phoneme. It is the companion to The Entire World of R Book of Stories. The 178 page book is comprised of 67 phonologically pure /r/ stories. All 8 variations of /r/ are represented by 6 different stories, each with an accompanying illustration. Each chapter focuses on a distinct variation of /r/; Initial /r/, /ar/, /or/, /ear/, /ire/, /air/, /er/ & /rl/. Also included are two "challenge" or graduation chapters with recurrent /r/ stories and mixed (all positions). All stories contain a mixture of initial, medial and final word positions in each story. The unique aspect of this tool is that only the target /r/ phoneme appears in each story. No other /r/ words are present to confuse and frustrate your students. Each story has an average of 8 target words that are highlighted for easy reference. Comprehension questions are included with every story. Use these stories for additional practice after your students have mastered the more specific stories (phonetic /r and word position) from The Entire World of R Book of Stories. The workbook is designed for therapists that work with articulation errors. It is also appropriate for comprehension and language therapy. Reading level: Grades 2 and up.
