HemoStyp gauze will only stop bleeding by becoming a scab which then prevents further bleeding of the wound, which usually requires direct pressure exerted on the bleeding site, gauze saturation and drying.
Upon assurance that bleeding has stopped, the gauze must be removed or it will cause the wound to fester. Frequently, when removing the gauze, bleeding begins again as the scab is stressed. It is very important the gauze
is removed slowly and carefully to prevent tearing away the scab. Blood soaked gauze is considered an environmental hazard and is a problem to dispose of safely.
HemoStyp Gauze acts as an absorber of blood and expands, creating mild, direct pressure and secures any blood clots present. This means that iron in the blood intermingles with the HemoStyp Gauze creating a collagen-like
substance which closes off the ends of the damaged blood vessels, thus causing hemostasis.
HemoStyp Gauze is easy to remove when the bleeding has stopped; simply add water and the gauze begins to disintegrate into glucose and saline. When the gauze has transformed, usually within about 60 seconds, simply wipe
the glucose-saline away from the bleeding site and the scab or clot is not pulled away; therefore the risk of re-bleeding is significantly, if not entirely avoided. Contaminated HemoStyp™ Gauze can be washed down the
drain as a glucose-saline jelly-like substance which completely disintegrates.
