Create a Multi-Sensory Environment
A safe and relaxing sensory environment offers comfort and supports learning.
A Multi-Sensory Environment (MSE) is a dedicated space or room where sensory stimulation is available. It is designed to allow passive or active control of the sensory environment.
Passive MSEs involve no control or adjustment from the therapist, and are typically used to help calm and relax, and support students as they process the world around them.
Active MSEs provide a space where a variety of interventions can be tailored to meet needs quickly and easily. Benefits can be therapeutic, educational, or focused depending on how the sensory equipment is used. For example, object recognition, context, and sequencing activities can be purposeful goals of an active MSE.
There are many options available, and our experts can help you choose the best solutions to meet the needs of your students.
