Triangle Cannons

Set up:

Triangle Cannons

Get as many laps around the triangle as you can!

By KayDee Perry

Objective:

Get as many laps around the triangle as you can.

Equipment:

Equipment Note: All teams should color coordinate their equipment.

Set Up:

The playing area should be a large circle shape.
Create 6 triangles using 3 cones/markers each. Place the triangles evenly around the outer edge of the circle, with the triangle point facing away from the center. Each triangle should be a separate color that will coordinate with all other equipment used.
Place two cannons inside the top part of the triangle and load each cannon with 2 foam balls each.
Place one hoop in the middle of the triangle.

Gameplay:

One player is selected to go first as the cannon launcher.  The other players start behind that player.  Play starts when the first player jumps/stomps on both cannons and launches the 4 balls into the center of the playing area.

Note: All six teams are shooting the balls into the middle to make it harder to retrieve the correct color balls.

As soon as the balls are launched, the player who launched them starts running laps around their triangle and keeps tally of how many laps are run.  All of the other players have to retrieve all 4 of their team’s color balls from the circle center and place them into their hoop to end the round.  Then the player who ran the laps writes down their number.

The players take turns being the cannon launcher/runners.

Circle Ball

Circle Ball

A fast paced goal game for all skill levels!

Equipment:

Set Up:

  • Place the Round Base Goal in the center of the playing surface (can be indoor or outdoor)
  • Use boundary markers to create two large rings with the Round Base Goal at the center. One ring is 15 feet from the Round Base Goal and the outer ring is 30 feet from the center. The area within the ring closest to the goal is neutral and not to be entered unless to retrieve a ball.
  • The area between the 15 foot and 30 foot rings will be known as the “defensive area” and the area outside of the 30 foot ring is the scoring/offensive area.

Players:

  • This game is played with two teams and no limit to the number of players.
  • The two teams are divided in equal number of players and skill.

Game Play:

  • Both teams start in the defensive area
  • Players are never allowed to go within the inner most circle that is closest to the RBG unless it is to retrieve the ball.
  • Play begins when the teacher throws in the 5” ball.
  • The team that gains possession of the ball leaves the defensive area for the offensive area.
  • Once all the offensive players are outside of the defensive area, they can begin trying to score.  They score goals by throwing the ball into the Round Base Goal.
One point is scored if the ball hits any part of the outside of the goal and 3 points are scored if the ball enters the goal from the top.  The ball does not have to stay in the goal or net to count.
  • Players in the offensive zone can run and pass the ball to team mates.  This includes throwing the ball to a player on the far side of the offensive area.
  • The team in the defensive area tries to block the goal and knock down or catch any attempts to score or when the ball is passed through the defensive area.  All defensive players must stay in the defensive area until they gain possession of the ball.
  • When a defensive player gets the ball, everyone on their team must get into the offensive area as fast as they can before they can score any points.  If any goal is scored before all players are in the offensive area, the goal will not count and the ball is given to the opposing team.
  • When a goal is scored the defensive team takes possession of the ball and immediately heads to the offensive area and begins trying to score.
  • The first team to score 21 points is the winner.

Game Variation:

Place a 20” Round Base Goal (#17278) in the center of the 40” Round Base Goal at a different height. Assign higher points if the ball goes into the 20” Round Base Goal (think of Skeeball).

Tic Tac Throw

Set up:

Tic Tac Throw

Create a Tic-Tac-Toe while working on throwing and catching!

Equipment:

Set-Up:

  • Spread jumbo colored spots with footballs on top along half-court line
  • On one endline place colored cones directly across from spots/balls
  • Students are placed into groups of 3-4 and stand behind cones facing spots/footballs
  • On opposite endline create three grids using floor tape or small poly spots (one grid for every two teams)
  • Place colored bean bags inside of bucket against the wall and behind grid (two buckets for each grid)

How To Play:

  • On signal the first Ss runs to jumbo spot, picks up ball and throws to 2nd Ss in line.
  • If ball is caught, the thrower places ball down on spot and runs down to their grid and grabs 1 bean bag out of their bucket and strategically places on grid and runs back to end of line
  • Catcher than becomes thrower and throws the ball to the next Ss in line.
  • If the ball is NOT caught, the thrower places ball down on spot and runs to end of line (they do NOT run and place a bean bag down) and next Ss in line becomes the thrower.
  • When all bean bags are down but there is no Tic Tac Toe yet, the next Ss in line will pick up one of their own bean bags and move it onto an empty square on grid.  They may NOT move their opponents beanbag.
  • Play continues until a Tic Tac Toe is made.
When one team wins, all bean bags are returned to bucket and a new game is started.
  • Play for a given amount of time and then rotate teams so they are playing against different opponents.
  • When throwing Ss must have at least one foot on the spot.
