"My name is Shawn Sima. I am the proud father of Lexi and Carter Sima. On February 2, 2016, I found my true calling in this world when my beautiful, healthy, and athletic 16-year-old daughter Lexi suffered Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) while running on a treadmill. Through the grace of God, she was saved by four strangers in our gym with CPR and an AED. It was at that time that our family began our mission to spread awareness and train others to save lives through education and legislation.

While Lexi was in the hospital, I discovered that SCA is the #1 killer of kids at school and the #1 killer of student athletes.

In 2017, we partnered with the American Heart Association and the Brevard County (FL) School Board to get a policy passed making it mandatory for all graduating seniors to be trained in a 1-hour, Hands Only CPR/AED course.

In 2018, our family was able to get a state bill passed in the State of Florida encouraging all students to begin CPR training every two years starting in the sixth grade.

Our work is not done and now we have been working on a national bill. Our family has also started a nonprofit organization, Lexi's Lifesavers, where our hope is that we can train as many future rescuers as possible and donate AEDs to those families and organizations who need them most."
