* Please be aware that SuperNova customers MUST upgrade to SuperNova 15 BEFORE upgrading to Windows 10. Microsoft is blocking the free Windows 10 upgrades where the computer has any screen reader or screen magnifier that is NOT currently compatible with Windows 10. This block applies to ALL assistive technology solutions and is designed to ensure that customers' Windows PCs remain accessible.

Microsoft Advice for AT users of Windows 10 Microsoft have published a short list of recommendations for screen reader and magnifier users moving to Windows 10. SuperNova users are also encouraged to follow these guidelines and Dolphin has published knowledge base articles to explain how in more detail. In summary Microsoft suggest:
  • Set your default web browser to Internet Explorer
  • Use Adobe Reader for an accessible PDF reading experience
  • Use the Outlook and Office desktop applications, not the apps versions

Known Issues:

Microsoft’s new Edge browser is inaccessible and not supported. If you try to use Edge, you’ll receive a message advising you to switch to Internet Explorer. This is a Microsoft development issue. The same applies to Microsoft Store and many Metro apps.

If you’re a Windows 10 touchscreen user you may experience a lack of response when toggling highlighting on. This is a Microsoft bug which they are working to resolve.

When you leave the start menu in Windows 10 the speech output may intermittently disappear, but it will come back after a few seconds. Again this is a Microsoft bug. Turning off live tiles in the start menu can help.
Warranty Software Maintenance Agreement (SMA) provides these benefits:
  • Free major upgrades
Individuals/home users get 2 major upgrades.
Organizations receive upgrades for the duration of the agreement.
  • Unlimited minor updates for immediate access to important bug fixes
  • Priority product support via email or telephone (with a dedicated phone number exclusive to SMA owners)
  • Remote access support
  • Access to web resources

SMA must be purchased at the same time as the software is purchased.
