Product Description

Research shows that introducing STEM early plays a key role in cognitive development and capabilities in these subjects later in life.

Edison is designed to provide learners with an opportunity to experiment and grow their knowledge, explore their imagination, cultivate their innovativeness, and have fun without expensive tools and excessive investment.

For kids, robots are the stuff of the future and science fiction, they are drawn to them. kids are instantly engaged and actually want to learn and experiment with robots. And best of all, they are not just learning about robotics, they are learning engineering, math, programming and general science concepts such as sensors.

The Edison robot is a powerful, engaging tool for teaching kids computational thinking and computer programming in a hands-on way. Along Edison's face are LEGO-compatible plates that allow the Edison robots to be scaled up into sophisticated creations, or even combined and doubled up for a more complicated system. (LEGO bricks not included)

With more built-in sensors than any robot in its class as well as lights, sounds and autonomous behavior capabilities, Edison makes true robotics education accessible to students of all ages.

Not just a remote-controlled robot, Edison can:

  • Respond to light and sound
  • Follow lines and avoid obstacles
  • Communicate with other Edison robots
  • Connect to other Edison robots and LEGO bricks
  • And much more

Edison’s robotics capabilities can be controlled and programmed in three ways:

  • Barcodes – Edison can read special barcodes that activate pre-programmed functions
  • Remote control – Edison can learn driving commands from standard TV or DVD remote controls
  • Programming – from a compute or tablet using one of three progressive programming languages
    • EdBlocks:a fully graphical robot programming language that is super easy to use. A drag-and-drop block-based system, EdBlocks is intuitive and fun, even for younger users. Perfect for introducing anyone to programming, ideal for students aged 8 to 12 years old.
    • EdWare:a hybrid graphical robot programming software (similar to Scratch), combines drag-and-drop graphical icons with increased functionality from text-based entry, making programming fun and easy to learn.
    • EdPy: an easy to learn, high readability and very popular Python programming language. EdPy teaches a real-life programming language and makes text-based programming fun and easy.

Edison can also be used to build and invent as the programmable base for an incredible range of engineering and STEM projects thanks to Edison’s expandable robotics system which works with the EdCreate construction kit and any other LEGO brick compatible building system.

Each programmable Edison robot interacts with the world via infra-red (IR) transmitters and receivers, line tracking, barcode reading, playing sounds and music, plus sound detection. It is also equipped with two motors with variable speeds, left and right red LED lights and three control buttons.

Features:

  • Easy to use‚ with many pre-programmed functions activated by included barcode cards
  • Multiple FREE programming languages, graphical and text based
  • LEGO compatible‚ modular and easily expandable
  • Built to last, rugged and tough, can withstand a car driving over it and still function
  • Simple download from any device with EdComm cable
  • 10 FREE Educational robotics lesson plans included

Product Use
Product Use/Directions Enrich kids’ STEM education experience through interactive engineering and programming projects by using Edison together with LEGO bricks.

Edison works with any LEGO brick compatible building system (not included). Bricks can be attached to the top and bottom of the Edison robot and pegs can be attached to the robot’s sides. When Edison’s wheels are removed, cross axles can be used in the powered sockets. LEGO bricks can be attached to the top of the Edison robot using the two strips of 2” x 8” connecting studs.

There are three types of holes on the side of Edison: pin holes, stud holes, and cross axle sockets. The three pin holes suit full depth pegs and the four stud holes suit shorter pegs. When Edison’s wheels are removed, LEGO cross axles can be inserted to create your own robotics inventions with motorized moving parts.

The underside of the Edison robot has a clear, removable skid at the front. Taking the skid out of the robot allows Edison to be used as a flat base.

There are also two rows of 2” x 8” stud sockets on the underside of Edison for connecting LEGO bricks or attaching one Edison robot onto another robot. Connecting multiple Edisons on top of each other allows students to design, build and program new robot inventions.
