Product Description

The Farnsworth D-15 style Color Vision Tests quickly and easily screens for red-green color deficiencies by asking subjects to separate 15 color disks. The Farnsworth D-15 allows basic color deficiency screening.

The Farnsworth D-15 Test is also referred to as ‘dichotomous’, because it was designed to separate subjects into one of two groups:

  1. Strongly/ Medium color deficient
  2. Mildly color deficient or color normal

This is accomplished by the arrangement of vivid (saturated) colored discs. This makes the test easy, and a non-perfect score is indicative of a strong color deficiency.

Instructions

Pre-test Considerations for the Farnsworth D15 Color Test:

Decide if the test will be done using both eyes (binocular) or each eye separately (monocular). Monocular variations are rare but may be necessary due to trauma or other considerations. The Farnsworth D15 is not sensitive to mild to moderate visual acuity loss. Conducted at a working distance of 19.5" (50 cm).

Testing Procedure:

For opening the ABS clear plastic box, press the circular label in the center to lift one end. Tip the color discs into the top part of the box and then onto a black surface. While referencing cap selection, the examiner places the reference cap into the bottom of the box.

The subject selects and arranges color discs in sequence, starting from the reference cap in given 2 minutes the subject will complete the arrangement and may alter the sequence if needed. On completion, the examiner secures the test chips by sliding the lid into place.

Scoring:

Read the color chip numbers on the reverse side through the clear ABS box. Record the sequence selected by the subject on a score sheet. Diagram the subject selection order on the score sheet template. Subjects with a color vision deficiency will arrange the color discs in a different order than a person with normal color vision.
