The LEA 3-D Puzzle is designed as a "pre-screening" activity to assist young children with optotype association for screening visual acuity. These removable, 2" high symbols assist in familiarizing children with the symbols or optotypes prior to screening and can also be used as a response key. Please note that this is not an actual screening test, but rather a tool to help children develop eye-hand coordination and to learn to match and name the puzzle shapes. By playing with the LEA Puzzle, children are prepared for future testing situations by the age of 1 ½ - 2 years instead of the usual 3-4 years. Product includes booklet, "Assessing Vision Development through Pictures and Shapes" a guide to using the LEA Puzzle.
Lea Symbols Visual Acuity Test System developed by Lea Hyvarinen, M.D. The Lea Visual Acuity Test System is the only complete set of visual acuity tests for near and far distance vision for all patient groups 18 months and over. The tests are based on four symbols which blur equally at the threshold. The symbols are easy to name, sign or point to on the key card or flash cards (included with every test except 52152 3-D Symbols or 52168 Symbol Domino Cards).
The tests are designed to create a play situation where the child never experiences failure. When no longer correctly recognized, the symbols transform into circles appropriately called "rings" or "balls" by the child. The child can still perceive that he/she is answering "correctly", while the examiner can easily detect the acuity threshold.
