Yoga is wonderful to remediate language disorders, autism spectrum disorders (ASD), fluency, ADD, ADHD and other learning disorders and delays. The cards provide an innovative combination of yoga postures and language development activities written specifically for preschool to early elementary aged children. They blend the calming, restorative, and stimulating aspects of yogic movements with targeted developmentally appropriate learning goals.
Research shows that learning is significantly enhanced when movement is a part of the activity. Movement engages the senses and stimulates brain activity. The more the senses are engaged, the more learning occurs, and the information learned is better retained. Since yoga engages the body in the broadest range of movements, it is one of the most ideal disciplines to affect productive learning.
Set of 26 paired cards (52 total) one for the student and one for the instructor. Each card has a posture corresponding to a letter of the alphabet. The cards for children have a large colorful illustration of the pose on the face. The reverse side of the card describes the benefits of the posture and provides verbal cues for correctly forming the pose. The cards are all color-coded and labeled for easy arrangement of activities. Appropriate for ages 2 and up.
Instructor Guide is perfect to get started using yogic techniques. No experience with yoga is necessary. Contains a wealth of easy to follow information on how to use yoga to enhance learning in pre-literacy skills (such as phonemic awareness, syllable segmentation and rhyming) and language development skills (such as wh questions, oppositional concepts, categorization and attributes). Covers a broad range of topics including how to set goals, how to group children by appropriate ages, improve motor skill development, and build speech and language skills. There are sections on working with different age groups such as toddlers, preschool and older children. 80 pages.
