Product Description

ProxTalker is the most advanced and adaptable recorded speech communication device available. It uniquely uses RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology to enable independent verbal picture communication for non-speaking people of all ages. This technology allows you to simply place any photo, symbol or object on a Sound Tag card and have a voice. To trigger voice output, place a Sound Tag card on any one of the ProxTalker’s 5 buttons. No longer is your recorded message stored in a fixed location.

No other device works in the same way. The ProxTalker provides instant access to a huge range of recorded vocabulary at all times to support language and learning.

Children and adults with autism and other diagnoses benefit most from the ProxTalker as it is an easy introduction to verbal communication. These individuals typically cannot yet use a touch screen device, but instead require tangible objects and pictures to learn and communicate. Silent pictures users now have easy access to voice output communication. Use the ProxTalker as a final solution or as a bridge to another device.

The ProxTalker is simple yet sophisticated. Teachers, therapists, and parents welcome the easy-to-use technology found in the ProxTalker. Within minutes you can quickly learn how to operate and record a message, allowing you to spend more productive time implementing fun strategies with your students or child.

Easily customize your own tags, record your own messages, and expand vocabulary as communication grows. Choose from a number of common strategies to meet your user’s learning and communication goals:

  • Single Word: a great introduction to requesting decision making and social commenting.
  • Sentence Building: sequence words and phrases to create a complete message; good for students who have progressed beyond single word.
  • Sentence Structure: the ability to move the tags physically enables the user to learn sentence structure and organize their thoughts.
  • Tangible Objects: objects of reference and tactile symbols give users a tactile prompt by adhering an object to a tag and recording a message. Great support for those who need reference cues to initiate communication, as well as those who need need tactile input, or have visual impairment.

ProxTalker uses RFID technology to retrieve vocabulary stored on sound tags to produce REAL words. Ideal for any picture exchange system user, of any age. Use for communication or as a classroom tool.

Easy to use: just pick a tag, place it on a button and press - Proxtalker says the appropriate sound, word, or sentence. The sound tags can store up to 8 seconds of recording and can be labelled with a wide range of symbols, photos, text or objects of reference. Speak All™ tag enables a sequence of tags to be played automatically.

Who is a candidate for the ProxTalker?
  • Person with extreme behaviors - such as biting, banging their head into walls, jumping off tables and chairs, pulling hair, hitting, urinating on the floor, spreading feces on walls and stripping.
  • Person diagnosed with autism - a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and verbal and non-verbal communication, and by restricted, repetitive or stereotyped behavior.
  • Person who is non-verbal - about 25% of people diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder could be considered to have non-verbal autism. Some people have the ability to speak, but lack the ability to use language in a meaningful way. Others cannot use spoken language, but are able to communicate with written or typed language, American sign language, picture cards, or digital communication devices.
  • Person with language processing disorder - a difficulty attaching meaning to sound groups that form words, sentences, and stories.
  • Person lacking categorization skills - the process in which ideas and objects are recognized, differentiated, and understood. Categorization is fundamental in language, prediction, inference, decision making and in all kinds of environmental interaction.
  • Person who is echolalic - the automatic repetition of vocalizations made by another person.
  • Person on a sensory diet - a carefully designed, personalized activity plan that provides the sensory input a person needs to stay focused and organized throughout the day.
  • Person with apraxia - a problem saying sounds, syllables, and words. The brain has problems planning to the move body parts (e.g., lips, jaw, tongue) needed for speech. The person knows what he or she wants to say, but his/her brain has difficulty coordinating the muscle movements necessary to say the words.
  • Other cognitive disabilities that affect memory, word retrieval, speech and language.
  • Person unable to transition to iPad/tablet - some people may never be able to transition to an iPad or tablet due to lack of ability to categorize. Other factors include behaviors and destruction of devices. Replacing cracked screens, broken "indestructible" cases and time lost in therapy should be considered as well. There are also circumstances where a person does transition to an iPad/tablet, but quickly loses interest in learning language and using the device because they are not getting the sensory feedback their body needs to stay focused.
