Survival Signs Curriculum provides a step-by-step guide for students to learn the meaning of 80 indoor and outdoor signs found in the community, at home and in the workplace. The instruction method gives detailed explanations of the visuals and words of each sign. A perfect teaching tool for all students, the curriculum includes discussion activities and charts for the teacher to record the various places in the community where each sign is located. Students who are nonreaders or who have limited reading skills can rely on visuals on the survival signs to determine each sign's meaning. The overall purpose of the program is to prepare students of all abilities to follow the directions on common community survival signs. This method allows many students to travel safely in the community.

Survival Signs Book
Guide includes 2-page teaching guide for each of the 40 outdoor and 40 indoor survival signs, plus discussion activities and a reproducible Community Trip Record Chart for the teacher to record the various places in the community where each sign is located. Each sign is described beginning with the visual symbol(s) to allow students with limited reading skills to participate. Explanations of the signs are designed to be simplistic in nature for students of all ages and abilities to benefit from the program. Softcover, 176 pages.

Survival Signs Bingo Games
Fun games assist individuals in recognizing survival signs they need to know. Especially effective with individuals with limited or no reading skills. Full color signs are ideally suited for visual learners. Effective to use as a review before and after community outings. Survival Signs Activity Cards
Designed to teach students how to recognize the international symbols and key words or phrases on 80 common signs located in the community. Each survival sign is covered on the front and back of two activity cards. The 5- by 8-inch cards are categorized into indoor and outdoor signs levels one and two. Includes a Teacher’s Guide with instructions, reproducible Assessment Tools, and suggestions for independent study, small groups, and classroom settings. Card sets come in a sturdy storage box. Collection of Worksheets to provide written practice in learning the functional meaning of important signage at home, at work, and in the community. Easy-to-follow worksheets feature large, detailed illustrations of the signs to help participants with limited reading skills.

Survival Signs Software
Interactive version of Survival Signs curriculum. Features 40 indoor and 40 outdoor survival signs presented using international symbols and illustrations. Narration and voice prompts guide students, making the program effective for visual learners and those with limited or no reading skills.

The software teaches the following activities:

  • Learn the Signs: players view each of the signs and listen to extended explanations.
  • Choose the Sign 1: Two signs are displayed, the words on one of the signs are read aloud by the narrator, and players decide which of the two signs is the correct match. This activity has two levels. In Level 1, picture symbols and words are shown on the signs. In Level 2, words have been removed and only the picture symbols are shown.
  • Choose the Sign 2: Same as Sign 1, except three signs are displayed.
  • Match the Sign: One sign without words is displayed; students match the correct meaning to the sign.
