Since 2001, the West Virginia Vision Initiative for Children (VIC), an outreach program of the West Virginia University Eye Institute, has trained, equipped, and supported diverse individuals to screen the vision of preschoolers. VIC is now making training and kits available to other interested individuals who want to help protect the vision of preschoolers.

The Vision Initiative for Children (VIC) teaches, equips, and supports pediatric primary care providers and their staff, school nurses, and Head Start to better screen the vision of children ages 3, 4, and 5 with developmentally appropriate tests and procedures. Until November 2008, P. Kay Nottingham Camplin, Ed.D. served as the VIC Program Director. She helped the program gain national recognition and spearheaded the training of over 1,600 screeners to date. Her tireless endeavors have led to several special recognitions and publications for the VIC program. Currently the VIC program is seeking funding to continue its mission to promote effective early childhood vision screening. |
