School Health Corp. Earns NABP Drug Accreditation
September 18, 2024
ROLLING MEADOWS, IL – School Health has earned Drug Distributor Accreditation from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®). The Rolling Meadows-based distributor is currently licensed to distribute in nearly all states and this accreditation enables the company to apply for licenses in the few remaining states, further expanding its nationwide reach.
“NABP congratulates School Health on achieving this important recognition,” said NABP Executive Director/Secretary Lemrey “Al” Carter, PharmD, MS, RPh. “By earning the Drug Distributor Accreditation, they demonstrate their commitment to preventing counterfeit drugs from entering the US drug supply, and they hold a pivotal role in protecting the public health.”
To earn accreditation, School Health was required to demonstrate compliance to a comprehensive set of regulatory standards and best practices in safely distributing prescription drugs from manufacturers to relevant institutions, including schools.
“We know that schools, and especially school nurses, need a nationwide distributor of medications who is also knowledgeable on the complexities of managing school purchasing requirements,” said School Health President, Rob Rogers.
Additionally, new laws and guidelines are encouraging schools to stock life-saving medication, including epinephrine auto-injectors and quick-relief albuterol inhalers. These laws are vital, as they can save the lives of students who experience anaphylaxis at school but do not have a prescribed epinephrine auto-injector. They also provide a safety net for students experiencing their first asthma episode, or those whose inhalers may be lost, expired, or forgotten.
“Having non–student-specific stock epinephrine and albuterol inhalers on hand empowers school nurses and staff to treat anaphylaxis or respiratory distress immediately, while awaiting the arrival of Emergency Medical Services,” said Rogers. “Earning the Drug Distributor accreditation from NABP furthers School Health’s mission to be a one-stop partner for schools when it comes to student health and safety.”
