Product Description
Speech Buddies Placement Tools are easy to use. They train the tongue to make the correct shape by providing targets that you can feel. Getting started is simple. Choose the right tools for your child, practice for 10 minutes 3 times a week, and see results.
Speech disorders often occur when children have not learned correct pronunciation through normal visual and auditory cues. The tactile bio-feedback method works by presenting a precisely located target so that children can feel correct tongue placement and movement required for speech. There is a uniquely designed Speech Buddy that uses this method for each of the most common problem sounds: R, L, S, CH, and SH.
Tactile biofeedback has been proven by several research studies to provide learning breakthroughs in speech whether a child is just starting to address it, or if they have been working on their sounds for years. Speech Buddies have been clinically proven to help children overcome speech disorders between two to four times faster than industry standards.[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Unlike oral motor methods which focus mainly on training muscle strength during non-speech exercises, Speech Buddies work by providing targets and tactile feedback inside the mouth during actual speech. The individual Buddies have been designed by a team of speech-language pathologists and engineers to target the five hardest to treat problem sounds – R, S, L, CH, and SH.
Speech Buddies Placement Tools are a great way to manage busy caseloads. They are perfect for group and individual therapy. Numerous trials and studies have proven that these tools are effective in school therapy. Speech Buddies Tools work quickly, saving your district money.
Whether your client is new to speech therapy, resistant to therapy, or in group therapy, Speech Buddies will complement your current practice and can help you overcome the challenges you face on a day-to-day basis. This system will allow you to treat more clients, faster, and more effectively.
Speech Buddies have been tested in numerous clinical studies with the findings that they fix speech problems and they do it quickly. Speech Buddies have been shown to be so effective that they were presented at the 2012 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s conference, showing that kids learn 2 to 4 times faster.

Product Use
Product Use/Directions | Speech Buddies can be used for:
Rabbit Buddy: R for /r/ distortion. Teaches proper tongue placement to make the perfect R sound. Corrects consonatal and vocalic sounds by training the tongue to unroll and coil in the mouth, a motion that is often difficult to communicate through traditional visual and auditory cues. The child can feel the coil unwind when the R is pronounced correctly. The coil does not unwind when R is pronounced incorrectly. Seal Buddy: S for /s/ distortion. Teaches proper tongue placement to make the perfect S sound. Corrects both frontal and lateral errors by training the tongue placement at the correct depth within the mouth. Helps both tongue placement and airflow to fix a "lisp" or "slushy" /s/ sound. Shark Buddy: SH for /sh/ distortion. Teaches proper tongue placement to make the perfect SH sound. Corrects frontal and lateral errors by teaching tongue placement at the correct depth within the mouth. Helps both tongue placement and airflow to fix a "lisp" or "slushy" /sh/ sound. Lion Buddy: L for /l/ distortion. Teaches proper tongue placement to make the perfect L sound. Trains correct frontal placement by guiding the tongue target behind the upper teeth. Cheetah Buddy: CH for /ch/ distortion. Teaches proper tongue placement to make the perfect CH sound. Helps train proper positioning by guiding the tongue to the correct spot on the alveolar ridge. Testimonials
Testimonials | "I am a Speech Pathologist and have used Speech Buddies on new patients and treatment resistant patients, including those with articulation and phonological delays/disorders and dyspraxia and have seen great results. Several of my clients receiving accent reduction have also benefited significantly from using these tools. Preliminary evidence, as well as my own anecdotal evidence obtained using these tactile biofeedback tools, has done nothing other than begin to convince me of how effective Speech Buddies can be." "I was introduced to Speech Buddies at the ASHA conference in Philly this year. As soon as I saw the research results from their study, I knew I had to have them! What a wonderful tool for tactile feedback it has been for teaching kids how to correct such things as lateral lisps, depalatization of SH for S (you can use the tools to help kids feel the difference), and the CH tool can be used to elicit velars K and G by pushing down the tongue. My school principal gave me a glowing review for my observation when he saw how helpful technology is in speech practice. Definitely has helped me to "graduate" more students this year! Highly recommend for all SLPs!!" "Although we don't like to admit it as speech therapists, sometimes we throw our hands down in frustration and have to grab a coffee stirrer or a spoon to help physically guide a patient's tongue to the right spot. I'm so happy that finally a solution exists to accomplish this task in a much more effective, consistent, and professional way. Speech Buddies also enable me to apply this method to a much larger set of sounds including the R sound, one of the trickiest to teach." "I just tried the CH with a 5 year old who had a cleft palate repair. She was able to get the sound on the first try. I have never had anyone get a sound on the first try! It brought tears to her mother's eyes, as she watched and listened." |
