- STEPS Curriculum Manual
The STEPS Curriculum focuses on a comprehensive approach to communication training with this edition tailored to use with the ProxTalker or ProxPAD.
Written by the STEPS Center for Excellence in Autism, this manual is meant to assist in developing beginning communication skills that can lead to comprehensive communication for nonverbal individuals.
The manual addresses beginning communication step by step and allows the instructor to break down communication into Steps to ensure that all skills are being taught and to determine the barriers that are prohibiting the student from moving forward.
This approach to comprehensive communication training is based in the ABLLS framework and works to provide the instructor with goals and activities meant to assist the instructor in working with any student who has limited or no visible language skills. This curriculum is designed so that teaching can occur in increments that are manageable and likely to result in meaningful, and permanent, gains for the student. This edition uses the ProxTalker as its main medium of language support in its design of lessons and activities.
The manual divides communication training into 3 stages: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.
