Using AT to Meet Literacy Standards

These book provide assistive technology solutions and sample IEP goals, and cover a wide range of AT options, from digital talkers to slide-on pencil grips. Curriculum areas include reading, writing, written and oral composition, listening and speaking. The books are organized by grade level; K-3, 4-6, 7-12.

Solutions were developed using these basic principles: AT considerations for the classroom are based on a student's need to access the general education curriculum as defined by performance standards, and AT considerations do not necessarily require large expenditures. Solutions are designed to be consistent with the level of performance expected for each curriculum standard.

The AT Solutions guides are designed to be user friendly. Curriculum standards within each content area are presented in chart format, which includes:

• the grade ad standard
• an analysis of the access issues related to performance of the standard
• suggestions for AT solutions
• sample IEP goals
