Whatz-It Color Scale Indicator

Low tech indicator supports people with communication difficulties in scaled decision making situations. Its graduated color scale (green to red) allows a selection of intensity rather than identifying an exact number or abstract facial expression. Designed to address problems with communicating difficult concepts, such as pain, when the user is in a potentially stressful situation. Using a simple device like this can lead to improved care and more accurate diagnosis and treatment.

“On a scale of one to ten, tell me how much it hurts" – adequate for most people, but a person with autism may give their favorite number, a number they recognize, or no response at all. Scales which use facial expression are equally confusing. The graduated "green to red" color scale allows a selection of intensity rather than an exact choice and avoids the possibility and stress of selecting the 'right answer'.

Includes a set of eight magnetic tiles which can be easily picked up and placed on the sliding scale. Customized symbol tiles can be added if needed. The contact surfaces and tiles are mark resistant and washable, minimizing the potential of cross infection.
